Reflections and Milestones: A Year of Progress for GloPID-R

Dear Readers,

As we come to the end of the year, we would like to take a moment to reflect on recent achievements and the collective progress made across the GloPID-R network. This has been a year marked by collaboration, innovation, and important steps forward in global research preparedness.

Earlier this year, the GloPID-R Data Sharing Working Group launched its suite of implementation tools, including a dedicated GloPID-R Data Sharing Implementation Guide — a forward-looking and practical tool to help research funders support their grantees in sharing research data during outbreaks.

We also launched the first Global Research Improving Pandemic Preparedness (GRIPP) coordinated funding call, aimed at strengthening clinical trial readiness in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative directly advances the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Action Plan for Clinical Trial Ecosystem Strengthening (GAP-CTS) and supports the commitments outlined by World Health Assembly Resolution 75.8. It also operationalises the goals and principles of the GloPID-R Funders Living Roadmap for Clinical Trial Coordination. We are currently gearing up for the second GRIPP call which is set to launch in 2026.

100 Days Mission Data Dashboard Launch

The Pandemic PACT programme is developing a series of online, interactive data dashboards aligning relevant subsets of its data to key policy and research roadmaps. The 100 Days Mission (100DM) Dashboard is the first dashboard in this series and it has been launched on the Pandemic PACT website this month.

The 100DM implementation is supported by the International Pandemic Preparedness Secretariat and aims to accelerate the development of safe, effective and affordable diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines within the first 100 days of an emerging health threat. This publicly available interactive dashboard displays data on health investments aligned with the 100DM objectives.

Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT Fund)Prototype Detection Test for MPox

The GHIT Fund has an investment of approximately JPY 70 million (€386,000) for the development of a prototype detection test for Mpox. The project involves NIPRO CORPORATION, a global comprehensive healthcare company in the medical devices and pharmaceuticals; TBA Co., Ltd, a venture company originating from Tohoku University; the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS); the international non-profit organization PATH (USA); and the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB). The project seeks to develop a prototype detection test capable of distinguishing clades using the Iso-PAS method—an inexpensive and simple genetic testing technique—and its performance will be evaluated. This will enable easy testing even in facilities with limited infrastructure, facilitating prompt and appropriate treatment while helping to prevent the spread of infection.

CORCs Filoviruses WHO and Ebola research priorities

Appointed by WHO to lead the Collaborative Open Research Consortium (CORC) on Filoviruses, ANRS MIE continues to strengthen global epidemic preparedness through its role as a WHO Collaborating Center. To identify the next main research priorities on filoviruses, working groups have been established to define key directions within each of the following subfields: treatments, vaccines, pathophysiology and disease models, viral ecology, and diagnostics.

As part of the CORC filovirus, ANRS MIE has also established contact with the CORC coronaviridae, in connection with the two MERS-CoV cases recently reported in France, to strengthen coordination and collaboration.
